Burnt alum is a unique pharmaceutical preparation, a powder for external use. Due to its drying, disinfecting and astringent properties, burnt alum is an inorganic remedy for combating sweating and unpleasant odor. With constant use, burnt alum helps combat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the palms, feet and armpits, and is useful in the prevention of fungal diseases (mycoses). Unlike perspirants with organic components, burnt alum does not clog the pores of sweat glands and does not reduce their activity, since its action is based on the high absorption properties of anhydrous aluminum potassium sulfate. The antipruritic effect is due to the formation of a so-called colloidal film at the point of contact with the skin, which envelops and protects the nerve endings.
